In Kiel you have the option to choose between....

... the specialized master and the interdisciplinary master for the following areas of specilisation:

- aquatic and terristrial ecology (VR 1)
- biodiversity and evolution (VR 2)
- molecular physiology and developmental biology (VR 3)
- genetics and microbiology (VR 4)
- cellular biology (VR 5)


You should decide on the specialized master if you seek for individual setting of priorities in contemporary biology. You concentrate on one of two of the specialisations above (VR 1 - VR 5). In the second area of specialisation you visit at least the introduction module.

The interdisciplinary master is the right choise if you want to aim at a more wide-ranging subject-based knowledge. You choose two of the specialisations above (VR 1 - VR 5) and attend modules equally from both.

For boths master degree programmes you furthermore have the possibility to  choose a minor subject in disciplines neighboring biology like medicine and biochemistry.
In total you need 60 ECTS for both areas of specialisation.

For the specialized master you achieve at least 45 ECTS in one area of specialisation (e.g. 45:15, 50:10, 55:5).

For the interdisciplinary master you distribute your ECTS in two equal parts, up to 40 ECTS for one area of specialisation (e.g. 40:20, 35:25, 30:30).
